A self-trained, emerging abstract artist who story tells primarily through textured acrylic paints but does not like to be limited to singular medium. Born on the ‘wrong side of the tracks’, the majority of her pieces story tell the fight to overcome adversity, the frustrations of today’s world and re-interpretations of scenes from around the world discovered during many of her travels.
100% of profits go to nonprofits providing help to children in crisis.
Tina was reminded recently by someone that she was born on the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ by someone trying to make her feel ‘less than’. Born to a broken family in the Kansas City area, she suffered through years of childhood abuse. The child of a teenage mom, oldest of 4 children (in Oregon) and recently discovered 5 half-siblings in the Kansas City area, was continually told she ‘was not good enough’.
Tina fought against the odds refusing to be a statistic. Life’s circumstances did not allow Tina to obtain a college degree but that did no slow her down. She fought. Instead, she worked odd jobs while simultaneously teaching herself graphic design which led to her operating a successful branding and consulting company for over 13 years where she helped launch and grow over 32 startups and nonprofits. Tina’s skills as a storyteller eventually landed her a job as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Nike, Inc. where she spent 7 and half years taking complex data and converting to easy to digest stories to get buy-in for innovation material's projects. Her job at Nike sent her around the world where she was able to see the beauty in the world. This grew her desire to find a more creative outlet.
According to Tina, ‘she sees art in everything’; her brain creates re-interpretations and designs constantly. This led to her to start playing with several mediums with textured acrylics being her preferred. Texture is a must! Eventually, people became interested in purchasing her art. With corporate life behind her, Tina has picked up the paint brush full time to continue to storytell her life and the world through her lens.
Each piece of art contains the essence of Tina - past, present and future. There are hidden meanings and messages throughout each piece. Each piece is very personal. The owner’s of the originals will be the ones to receive the meaning behind each piece.
Married to her amazing and supportive husband, Mark, for over 30 years, they now reside in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Coming from the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ and having overcome a life no one should ever live through, created a passion and desire to help other kids impacted by abuse. This led Mark and Tina to serve on the board of a nonprofit that served children of abuse and neglect. That led to the adoption of two teenage sisters from the foster care system.
Mark and Tina are now the parents of 4 amazing adult children. Tina desires her art to make an impact! 100% of all profits for Tina’s art are donated to nonprofits that support children impacted by abuse.
I hate 'boxes'. This world caters to the proverbial 'box'. Many of pieces reflect owning who we were created to be. We are all created different; our own individual uniqueness. We all have a purpose to serve and gifts to be shared. When someone asks what my style is...well, it's whatever I'm feeling. My preference is textured acrylics but sometimes I want to use oil or I want to repurpose some wood. Don't put me in a box. Even my outfits are my own unique style. Somedays, joggers and t-shirts and others Jordans with a tulle skirt.
Traveling the world.
Eat amazing food.
Enjoying quality dark chocolate.
Drinking good red wine and craft cocktails.
Drinking amazing coffee. (One of my favorites = Tall Fir Coffee)
Music especially finding and supporting up and coming artists.
Again, no boxes! Rock, Rap, Reggae, Folk, Indie...
That we are all 'good enough'. We all serve a purpose. We need to embrace it and share it with the world.
The stigma that comes along from having been abused becomes a road block for people. It makes people uncomfortable. They immediately assume there is something wrong with you. Not all of us fall into the statistics. We just have to fight a lot harder and have a steeper mountain to climb to get out from underneath the trauma.
Being told you are not good enough is bullying; it's manipulative. That was the hardest to overcome. Heck, I still battle the insecurities associated with this. Can we please stop degrading one another and lift each other up!
